Potion Table Still-Life
Description
When Hogwarts Legacy came out, I purchased a PS5 for the sole purpose of being able to play that game. While wandering through the potions classroom, I took reference images of the cauldrons and supplies present in the room to be able to do a sculpt that mirrored the style and level of detail present. I wanted to do the whole thing in ZBrush to practice doing some hard-surface type objects in the software to limit myself to more rigid objects and not limit myself with always trying to do more organic sculpts. This was the result of that goal.
This cauldron presented one of the bigger tasks. I wanted to get some fine ornamentation but not have it feel sloppy or slapped together. To accomplish this, I created my own alphas and made use of ZBrush's circular symmetry abilities to map the alphas around the cauldron. I then went over each section and added medium and small levels of details to allow for some natural variety in pattern as a result of age and wear. I created an iron texture in Substance Designer and used the height map from that as an additional alpha to give more grit to the model as a whole
